Since KTHY flights were canceled on 21 June 2010, Turkish Cypriots did not have an airline of their own, but now they do… It's called Fly Kıbrıs Airlines. The company's first plane was named the "Team of Angels" after the KKTC volleyball team who lost their lives in the Isias Hotel in the earthquake disaster in Adıyaman.
Fly Kıbrıs Airlines (Flykhy) presentation was made with a magnificent ceremony at Ercan Airport's newly opened terminal. It has been announced that the airline will start daily flights from Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara as of April 16. The opening night of Fly Kıbrıs Airlines was attended by the President of the Republic Assembly Zorlu Töre, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, one of the founding partners of the Fly Kıbrıs Airlines Board of Directors Nusret Polat, Rauf Denktaş, Mehmet Dalman Yücel, as well as some deputies and 180 tourism professionals brought from Istanbul. The promotion started with a minute of silence for those who lost their lives in the earthquake in our country and the National Anthem.
